#FAVES – DRUGSTORE

It’s been forever since I did a favourites post, purely just because I haven’t bought new makeup since I went to Miami so I’ve actually been using what I’ve got. I’ve recently been loving drugstore/cheaper products because I really think this year the whole market has really come through and is so much more advanced than it used to be. I’ve rounded up my ultimate OG’s below, all of this is stuff I’ve been using religiously for the past 2-3 months.

img_4433

Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer

I bought 2 of these when I went to Miami but have managed to smash my other one :))). This is the perfect shade of bronzer whether I’m tanned or not tanned, it always looks right. It’s got a beaut buttery smooth texture that really glides and blends into the skin. Plus it smells amaze.

Topshop Glow Drops

I don’t think they’re a thing anymore, or they may be in your local store. These are the perfect dupe for the Cover FX liquid highlighters. You can use them over foundation, under foundation, on your face with no makeup at all. They’re so multi purpose! I love to use mine under foundation all over the face when I’m tired AF and need a glow.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation

Okay, we need to discuss. I bought this foundation in September in Miami and I’ve been wearing it everyday since, I actually got my Boss to get her mum to bring me back 3 extra bottles when she went to LA because I didn’t know what to do when it ran out. However last week it launched on Amazon UK so you can finally get it in the UK! It’s a radiant finish, lightweight, medium to full coverage. You know when people want that perfect everyday foundation? This is it. I use shade 205 which is perfect for when I have my tan on. It lasts a full day at work for me too but goes so nicely will my Too Faced Hangover X primer!

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

I know its wild that I’ve got 3 bloody concealers in a favourites post but I can’t choose one because I love them equally and alternate between them all the time! The Fit Me is my fave for when I don’t need as much coverage under eye and it’s quite radiant so I use it when I’m going for that kind of vibe on my face. It does crease but every single concealer creases on me because I’ve got fine lines under my eyes (sobs). But out of all 3 concealers this is the most light weight under the eye. Go for this if you’re more of a natural kinda gal.

Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer

I’ve used this guy for like 3-4 years now and is always a fave. It’s a fantastic dupe of the NARS Creamy Concealer it’s just a shame the shade range is awful for darker skin tones, that’s the one thing I hate about drugstore product, they just forget about darker skin tones?! This is more of a matte, full coverage finish. My tip for this is take the sponge off, you get waaaay more product!

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer

This is a newbie in my collection after it went viral on YouTube for being a dupe to Tarte Shape Tape. It’s a full coverage concealer however only recently I’ve felt it’s quite heavy under the eyes so deffo more of a evening/full glam vibe. I originally bought shade C8 which is like my fake tan shade but I’ve discovered it’s a great eyeshadow base. I use C5 for a bright under eye. The only downside is that you get like 3ml of product which barely lasts so you’ll be going through 1-2 of these a month.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

I’ve used this for over a year now and is always my go to Mascara. To be honest, I love all of the Maybelline mascaras and they’re so trusty but I just find that this one really lengthens AND thickens, and like doesn’t go clumpy and weird. I always buy by Mascasra’s in a brown shade, never black, the brown is less harsh on my face.

NYX Dark Circle Concealer

Got dark circles which no concealer can hide? You need this. I can’t go a day without it. The red undertones in the concealer counteract the dark circles to eliminate them, it’s something to do with the 2 colours being opposite each other on the colour wheel or something. But I just dab a bit of this under my eyes and then pop my concealer on top.

Topshop Lip Contour

One of my fave cheap lip liner formulas. Although I can’t find them on the website so I’m not sure if they exist anymore but you can get Topshop in TK Maxx and I found some in there! It’s just a great your lip colour but better in a pencil! Sometimes I use it all over the lips for a dark nude matte look.

NYX Suede Lip Liner

The whole collection of these is fab but I love the shade London, it’s such a good dupe for MAC Stripdown which is one of my OGS. They have such a similar formula, if you like the pencil type vibe then you’ll love these. For only £4 you’ll end up going in for one and coming out with 5.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

I’ve got tones of these and I legit think I have the shade London in every handbag I have because I can’t be without one. I always use London with the matching lip liner above, they work so well together. If you don’t like wearing matte because you find them drying then this is for you, they’re super creamy like a whipped texture and then set onto the lips and no drying or chapping!

#SKINCARE101 – CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC SHEET MASK

….That is such a long title

SO I am obsessed with sheet face masks at the moment and nearly had a heart attack when I saw that Charlotte Tilbury was releasing one this year, because like everything she does, it’s going to be amazing. I was presuming an ordinary wet sheet mask, but no, she went hella extra and decided to create a whole new concept… a DRY sheet mask!

Priced at £18 for one, it is pricy. But then it’s also reusable?! As the mask is totally dry, it doesn’t hold any bacteria. Charlotte claims you can use it up to 3 times so really its £6 per mask if you break it down.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

What I really loved about this mask was the way the mask fits, it loops over your ears so it actually fits and stays on your face. To use, you just gently massage the mask into your skin to activate the product, then sit back for 15 minutes! I didn’t take any photos of myself in the mask because it looks terrifying, it reminds me of something in Doctor Who.

So the mask claims to hydrate, lift, reduce wrinkles, smooth & brighten. Afterwards my face definitely felt hydrated and had a gorgeous glow to it. I wouldn’t say that it lifted or reduced any wrinkles (not that I have many, yet!) but I’m presuming thats something that would come with continued use. However the next morning (I used it before bed) my skin didn’t look any different, if anything it was worse! My skin had a weird texture to it and my makeup just wouldn’t apply nicely on my skin.

Overall, I think as this is a dry mask its fascinating how it works and it’s a great piece of cosmetic science. But, because it’s dry I think I was amazed that it actually worked whereas realistically it has the same outcome as any other wet sheet mask. What its perfect for is when your skin is looking dull and needs a quick pick me up before you apply makeup, e.g. every Monday morning!

I’ve added in 2 YouTuber reviews on the sheet mask as these guys had a whole PR pack on the mask so can go into all the little bits of detail x

#FASHUN – LFW SOPHIA WEBSTER

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

After being struck down with a 24/48hr sickness bug over the weekend, my body conveniently sorted itself out in time for the Sophia Webster presentation at LFW today. I am an avid lover of Sophia Webster and her designs, more so as she is an alumni and my university and her little baby girl is called Bibi.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetI wore my Topshop embroidered denim combo with some fish net tights and my Sophia Webster Bibi low top trainers, obviously the baby pink Gucci belt made an appearance too.

The location was at the Vinyl factory in Soho. You had to enter through a vinyl record shop which had an amazing aspect of a real life Narnia experience. When you wandered down the grungy stairs you were greeted with a snow cone of your choice, I opted for watermelon flavour obvs.

There was fake snow everywhere, which for once felt weird as London seemed to be experiencing some kind of heatwave today. A giant snow globe consisting of 2 models in the most incredible thigh highs was what we first laid out eyes on.

Shoes were displayed on dripping ice podiums and bars. “I scream for ice queens” hung on the wall in neon.

We then walked round the corner to more gorgeous models in highly embellished crowns and jewels and butterfly shoes on ice podiums. It was basically Frozen but for the older customer, I was in my element. Instead of ‘let it go’ playing we had Dj Emerald playing some sassy RnB.

These shoes I literally can’t even deal, I think they have over 4 thousand diamonds on them ?!

These light up boots gave me life “hot like fire / cold like ace”

Finally, here’s the queen herself 👑

#FASHUN – MY SALE PURCHASES

The Boxing Day sales felt like they were SO long ago! I never shop on actual Boxing Day and I don’t agree with it either (most likely because I’m knee deep at work picking shit up off the floor wishing I was at home actually enjoying Christmas #RetailProbs). I wait 2/4 weeks after the launch day as this is when further reductions happen and more lines go into sale and you get the good shit. I managed to get my hands on some really good bits this year from Topshop so thought I’d share.

My number 1 purchase may have to be my navy feather jacket. I lusted over this when I first saw it but out of stock it went. I found a lost one in the sale with a £50 price reduction and just HAD to purchase. I got a size 10 (I usually wear an 8 in jackets) as I wanted it slightly oversized and able to fit a hoodie underneath.

In terms of price reduction, the embroidered tote bag HAS to be number 1. I always wanted this but originally priced at £65 it was a no from me hun. I managed to pick it up for £15! Yes, it is the same style as my chain cross body, but this one I can use for my shopping and uni books… like if I was to use uni books that is.

Another bag purchase, I love the Gucci inspired embroidery on this little cross body. It’s just the perfect size for little everyday trips. For £10 I really couldn’t go wrong with this purchase.
Finally, the shoes! Yet again I wanted these so bad when I first saw them but of course, out of stock they went so I bought the grey suede version instead. I do love a print on a shoe as it adds so much more vibrancy to and outfit and brings it all together.

#SKINCARE101 – NIGHT ROUTINE

Since my previous post about skin care was in May 2016, I thought an updated post was needed. Just so it wasn’t a lengthy one, I’m going to post the day and night routines separately, starting with my night routine, as it’s slightly more longer as it isn’t the same each night because I alternate between days.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I remove my makeup with the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser. I just find the ingredients in this really calming and gentle on my face. I start with my eye make up first, then face and then face again just to make sure all the dirt is off my face. Don’t forget to do your neck too!

Continuing the cleansing process, I’ll wash my face but depending on the day I’ll use either The Body Shop Tea Tree foaming cleanser, St Ives apricot face scrub or La Roche Posay Effaclar cleansing gel. If you have oily skin a gel based cleanser its best suited for your skin, and if you have dry skin then a foam cleanser is more suitable for your skin. So if my skin feels a bit textured and my make up has been clinging to dry patches then I’ll exfoliate, I only really do this once a week, at a push twice. Just as if you over exfoliate then your skin will end up producing more oil which is just not ideal. If my skin just needs a refresh then I’ll use The Body Shop Tea Tree foam cleanser. Finally, if my skin is looking really blemish like/my pores look huge then I’ll use la Roche Posay Effaclar gel cleanser as it does have a noticeable effect.

Up next is toner, before bed I always use the La Roche Posay Effaclar toner. I feel it helps my pores close and tighten over night. I only use this at night as it’s more chemical based and possibly harsher so I don’t want to use it in the morning on my face where I apply make up after incase that irritates my skin. Using it at night gives it time to work overnight on my skin.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Following this I’ll use a serum also depending on how my skin is looking. If it’s dry, then I’ll use Hylamide Hydrating Boost serum, if it’s looking red and blemish like then I’ll use Hylamide Sensitive Fix serum, then finally if it’s normal/blemished (it’s never bloody not blemished) then I’ll use The Body Shop Tea Tree Daily Solution. The Tea Tree solution is really good for blemishes and problem skin, just the Hylamide helps support with red ness and irritation on my face.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Finally moisturiser, every other night I alternate moisturiser. I only started doing this in the winter as it got colder my skin got dryer and basically just shit. On night 1 I use La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo cream. This is great for acne, and you can really notice the difference after one use, but I don’t feel like it REALLY moisturises my skin as it has a matte finish. If you’re oily this is will be absolutely perfect. On night 2 I use the Embryolisse cream from France, which Boots now sell!. This just adds a bit of radiance and really helps improve the elasticity of my face. So one night I’ll do one and another night I’ll do the other! I get all of my La Roche Posay Effaclar products in the 3 Step Anti Blemish System. If you suffer from blemishes then I honestly really do recommend this.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

I do a face mask probably twice a week. I have a huge collection of sheet masks I I’ll dedicate a whole post to them. I’m a big fan of sheet masks at the moment, however I’m looking for a cream mask that’ll really get deep into my skin. I’ve used GlamGlow before but I accidentally left the lid off and it dried out (fuming), but it really was amazing I will most likely repurchase. Anyway, I aim to go for a sheet mask for tired skin that radiates and hydrates, something along those lines anyway. I’ll pop this on my face for about 45minutes or until I feel the sheet going dry, then I’ll massage the remaining serum into my face.

And that is it! Sorry it was a long one. Any recommendations for a cream face mask let me know.

#GETTHELOOK- FISHNET DEETS

I am LOVING this trend of wearing fishnet tights under ripped jeans etc, yessssss kimmy k thank you for this inspo! I bought mine for £8 from Topshop but they’re just going in and out of stock, like why not just try get them from a sex shop instead?

I wore mine under ripped mom jeans from Topshop, the rips over time have exaggerated from wear which I kind of prefer cause they look more like a natural tear. I paired them with my & Other Stories boots so you could see the fishnet detail not only on the knee but on my ankles also.

I then wore them with my unripped mom jeans, but paired with a crop top so you could see the top of the tights and waistband, totally kimmy k style. I wore stan smiths just to keep it casual 🙋🏼 how do you wear yours?

#HAUL – FRENCH PHARMACY LUVIN

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

So for New Year myself and my boyfriend went on a dreamy 5 day trip to Paris. The best part may of possibly been 2 days in Disneyland. It was amazing I had the best time! Whilst I was there obviously I had to check out every Sephora in sight and I’ve found a new appreciation for French pharmacies.

Sephora EU isn’t as amazing as what I imagine the US ones to be, I just topped up on their own brand face masks as I absolutely love them. They had an Anastasia Beverley Hills counter however only the brow and contour products were in stock, all the glow kits and eye shadow palettes were sold out. They also had a Huda Beauty counter but you had to queue up, it was 2 people at a time only so the queue was so slow! I’m not that fussed about the lip collection, none of the shades are really suited to me. I would of had a swatch but you even had to queue to just swatch!

I’d read good things about French pharmacies as apparently they’re loved by make up artists and models during Paris Fashion Week… here’s what I picked up…

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Bioderma Micellar Water

Similar to the Garnier one, except this is the original. I double checked the ingredients and they’re not similar so I decided to give this one a try. It’s deffo a bit tougher at removing make up than the Garnier, I think I actually prefer it. I bought the bottle which has the pump on which pumps the product straight onto your cotton pad. After I take my make up off, I then was my face and then swipe this across my face to make sure extra dirt is picked up. You can buy it in the UK here. Just as it’s a french product, it’s cheaper in France!

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré

This baffles me because it was 10€ in France and here in the UK its £20-£22! When I first saw it I was a bit taken a back as it had like 3 functions, a make up primer/moisturiser/face mask/make up remover ?? Like how can a primer and a remover be the same thing? Anyway, I bought it and because of the cold in Paris my face was so dry I decided to use it as a night time moisturiser first. In the morning my skin was 100% moisturised and just felt like it had a bit more life to it and elasticity.  I don’t think i’ll be using it as a make up remover, but it does actually do well at being a primer. However, I just use it when my skin needs a hydrating pick me up.  I’ll definitely be stocking up on this when I go back to Paris in April. However, you can purchase it on Feel Unique here.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Homeoplasmine

This is quite hard to get ahold of in the UK. I bought it for 6€ but BeautyMart sell it for £14 however it sells out asap. It works as a lip balm for chapped lips, and apparently as an alternative to Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream? I haven’t tried it on my entire face yet, but it does deffo work wonders on your lips, it has a matte finish so you can easily apply lipstick on top.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Avène Thermal Water Spray

This one isn’t the most exclusive buy as you can get ahold of the full French brand in Boots. I remember my mum using their products and I’d heard great things about this spray so thought I should try it. It’s really good at calming irritations and redness, I’m not sure if I’d repurchase as its not like essential if you like? You can try it for yourself here.

My skincare routine has updated slightly, let me know if you want to see an updated post!

#FAVES – BUT I’M ON YOUTUBE!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and festive period with your loved ones, and of course, ate sooo much food!

Over the Christmas period I went back up to Newcastle for a bit and visited my friend Yasmin, together we filmed a VERY chatty Best Of 2016 vlog for her YouTube Channel. I’ve never done a YouTube video before but this was so much fun to film! We go through our faves of 2016 and use the products as we go, it’s full of tricks and techniques too. Make a cup of tea and watch the video here! If you like it, please subscribe to Yasmin’s channel, she’s just set it up and is equally as passionate about make up as I am.

Stay tuned for January, I have lots of exciting posts and content planned! 2017 is deffo going to be a good year for my blog, I’ve got good vibes for this year. Make sure you never miss a post by adding your email for updates, or follow me on my social media channels.

#TRIED’N’TESTED – HUDA BEAUTY ROSE GOLD PALETTE

I managed to bag this on Cult Beauty as I’d signed up for email updates as to when this would be in stock. I imagined it would be out of stock by the time I got onto the website but it was still there! The palette was £56 which was a lot more than I thought it would be and I don’t know how I feel about it. But I kept looking at the glitter shades and was like look I’ll just buy it. As it was my first time ordering from Cult Beauty I was really impressed with the delivery time, it arrived the day after next in perfect packaging!

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset
I personally don’t like the packaging of this palette, it’s cheap for the price you pay. It arrives with a cardboard sleeve and then the palette is also made from cardboard within a plastic transparent lid, similar to a Z Palette. For £56 I was definitely expecting more, like think about how the Naked palettes and Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette are packaged. That was my vision. Plus once you have to keep opening and sliding on the sleeve, the corners of the palette just get scuffed.

So as I was a bit miffed at the packaging I wasn’t that excited for the shadows. They’re all talc free so there shouldn’t be much kick back and I was intrigued to see how they would blend. See below for my swatches, I didn’t add filters just so you can see the true colour.

The glitter was what I was most excited for, and you’re supposed to only apply these with your fingers. You can obvi use a brush if you want to but Huda suggested that the formula works better with fingers. The idea being you press firmly on the shade and then swipe on your lid and it glides on like a dream full of pigment. I prefer using my fingers sometimes for glitter lids but I also like spraying my brush with a bit of Fix+. Anyway I just couldn’t seem to get the glitters to swatch on my hand like I wanted them to! They seem quite flakey and you have to press down a couple of times to get the flakes to blend. A fantastic dupe of these shadows would be the Topshop singles, for £7-£9.50 they’re very similar.

(Left, with flash. Right, without flash)

When I went to use this on my eyes I realised that this wasn’t an everyday palette, definitely more for occasions and going out. The shadows perform so much better on the eyes than in the swatches. They blend like and absolute dream. In the red toned colours there’s some kick back but I know that the formula on red shades is particularly difficult to make without kickback. The glitters work with a finger but I still went in with a brush to tidy it up, I also did my classic fix+ technique and that also works. I did have to press down firmly more than once to build up the desired amount of glitter on my lid.

Overall is this with it? I’m unsure, the price is so damn expensive and the matte shades are similar to other palettes. The shimmers could pass for Morphe shimmers once they’re on the lid. Plus I feel like you can only create a certain amount of looks with this palette, unlike a Morphe or Anastasia Beverly Hills where you can go for days. After this, I bought the Violet Voss palette Holy Grail and I’ve been reaching for that more often. It’s cute but the packaging really devalues it.

#HAUL – PAYDAY PURCHASES

I did a big Beauty Bay order when I got paid and it was the best order I’ve ever place. I also bought some bits from Beauty Mart and believe it or not, Amazon too.

Let’s start with the Makeup Geek shadows as I just don’t understand why it took me so long to try Makeup Geek?! These shadows are just tooooo good I can’t get over how good they are. I bought Beaches & Cream, Peach Smoothie, Coco Bear, Frappe, Peach Melba, Cherry Cola and 2 foiled ones which I can’t remember but you can see on the photo. I bought a Morphe palette to pop them in just cause I preferred this to the Z Palettes. The shadows are just so pigmented its crazy, if these were £15 a piece I would still fully justify buying them. The foiled ones are incredible. I usually spray Mac Fix+ onto my brush first but for these you don’t even need to do that. I’m 100% buying more next payday.

Bought from Beauty Bay here

Okay so I bought another morphe palette, I probably didn’t need it but I did. I really think everyone should own at least one morphe palette as there such amazing value. I went for the 35K as I needed a really smokey palette and this was a perf alternative to the Urban Decay Naked Smokey palette. Once again the pigment just exceeds itself and the foiled shadows are in a league of their own. The empty palette is also perfect for pan eyeshadows, my Makeup Geek shadows fit in perfectly.

Bought from Beauty Bay here and the empty palette here.

Milani blush was next on my list as I saw these in a Jaclyn Hill video waaaay back. I couldn’t decide what shade to do so I went for romantic rose as it was vegan even though I’m not vegan lol. I was just curious to see how vegan make up was as I’ve never used it knowingly! Such a gorgeous everyday blush which goes on well, I think I’m going to buy more of these as you get so much product for your money.

Bought from Beauty Bay here.

I added a Gerad Cosmetics lippy to my basket and I’m unsure why, I think I was just going CRAY cause it’s cheap and I thought I was Jaclyn Hill. It’s nice but nothing major.

Bought from Beauty Bay here.

I HAD to try the EX1 foundation as people are going so mad for it I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I bought it in shades 100 and 300 as I tan a lot so needed to vary and mix up my shade when needed. However I wish I got 200 and 100 as 300 is actually really dark, well darker than I expected. EX1 is based around olive skin tones and the Arab women love it. But it just really reminds me of MAC Studio Fix Fluid, but for half the price. It has good days and bad days, if you know then you know. The texture is pretty similar too. I’ll still reach for it on my days off work but I do think the Too Faced Born This Way has my heart.

Bought from BeautyMart here.

I’m starting to get into the Korean skincare hype. BeautyMart were selling the TONY MOLY face masks and I was just intrigued by the randomness of the ingredients, like red wine face mask???? But for £6 a shot I was like nah. I found them on amazon, yes Amazon, for £11 for 11 masks (basically the whole set). So I popped them in my basket. I haven’t tried all of them yet but I don’t think I like them more than the Sephora ones. The pore control broke me out into really bad acne again, which some things do then it clears up but a week later and the spots aren’t shifting. However he radiance ones are nice. Cute for a pamper night.

Bought from Amazon here.
