#LIFE – I’M NOW ON YOUTUBE/BERLIN TRIP

SO I finally attempted to start up my YouTube channel, with a vlog from Berlin! The Paris one WILL be on its way soon I just can’t seem to get my head around editing just yet. I’m so nervous for it to go up, its far from perfect and very obviously a first attempt. I don’t understand how I’ve managed to set up my own site and learnt to HTML my way through it but I just can’t get my head around YouTube… its so much harder than I thought!

My camera actually died so this doesn’t show everything from my trip, but you get the jist of it all. I also don’t think my camera is very good with film, I have a Fuji X100 or something which is amazing for photos but for film I think I need something Sony or Canon based, suggestions below please!

So alongside the vlog I thought I’d share some photos from my trip, I thought I took so many more but I evidently didn’t.

#FASHUN – MY SALE PURCHASES

The Boxing Day sales felt like they were SO long ago! I never shop on actual Boxing Day and I don’t agree with it either (most likely because I’m knee deep at work picking shit up off the floor wishing I was at home actually enjoying Christmas #RetailProbs). I wait 2/4 weeks after the launch day as this is when further reductions happen and more lines go into sale and you get the good shit. I managed to get my hands on some really good bits this year from Topshop so thought I’d share.

My number 1 purchase may have to be my navy feather jacket. I lusted over this when I first saw it but out of stock it went. I found a lost one in the sale with a £50 price reduction and just HAD to purchase. I got a size 10 (I usually wear an 8 in jackets) as I wanted it slightly oversized and able to fit a hoodie underneath.

In terms of price reduction, the embroidered tote bag HAS to be number 1. I always wanted this but originally priced at £65 it was a no from me hun. I managed to pick it up for £15! Yes, it is the same style as my chain cross body, but this one I can use for my shopping and uni books… like if I was to use uni books that is.

Another bag purchase, I love the Gucci inspired embroidery on this little cross body. It’s just the perfect size for little everyday trips. For £10 I really couldn’t go wrong with this purchase.
Finally, the shoes! Yet again I wanted these so bad when I first saw them but of course, out of stock they went so I bought the grey suede version instead. I do love a print on a shoe as it adds so much more vibrancy to and outfit and brings it all together.

#GETTHELOOK- FISHNET DEETS

I am LOVING this trend of wearing fishnet tights under ripped jeans etc, yessssss kimmy k thank you for this inspo! I bought mine for £8 from Topshop but they’re just going in and out of stock, like why not just try get them from a sex shop instead?

I wore mine under ripped mom jeans from Topshop, the rips over time have exaggerated from wear which I kind of prefer cause they look more like a natural tear. I paired them with my & Other Stories boots so you could see the fishnet detail not only on the knee but on my ankles also.

I then wore them with my unripped mom jeans, but paired with a crop top so you could see the top of the tights and waistband, totally kimmy k style. I wore stan smiths just to keep it casual 🙋🏼 how do you wear yours?

So the concept of the day is that you book yourself onto 1 workshop, 1 talk and 1 catwalk show. By the time I got round to doing this the workshops I wanted were fully booked so I just decided to do a talk and the catwalk show. As I went the year before I had a rough idea about what the catwalk would be like. I booked myself onto a trend forecasting talk as my current unit at uni is based on forecasting. One of the guest speakers was from WGSN (major global forecasting site) which was really interesting. I learnt a lot from the talk but some of it was what I learn at uni, plus the audience could do a Q&A at the end which I enjoyed as it broadened the topic.

The catwalk is built up of 5 trends for A/W all of which are high street looks you can buy now. In my personal opinion, it’s just naff. I’d much rather a edit which you can actually shop at the event built up of some personal shoppers and stylists to help you find the look which is best for you. However the main thing which I disliked about the catwalk show, was that in the trend talk the fashion editor talked about tailoring everything for the Stylist reader. Now, this should of been filtered onto the catwalk show. The Stylist reader isn’t all a size 6 tall skinny early 20’s female. It would be much more exciting if we had a range of body sizes up on the catwalk to reflect the range of readers. You can say the same for all fashion shows I know, but Stylist is that magazine you get for free on the tube to read in on your commute and really reaches out to the reader.

In between all of this, the business design centre is built up of pop up stalls. Clarins and Urban Decay having the biggest floor space. I wanted to see more exclusive discounts. Liz Earle only had 10% off which was a bit disappointing, you can get better on Feel Unique! It needs to be a lot more hands on, a lot of the brands are small businesses trying to sell product to you which kinda got annoying. I want to be able to learn about these new brands and get an experience. For example, Urban Decay was just like going into Debenhams… where as at an event like this they should be doing master classes, prize giveaways, discounts etc. Like really open up to the customer and promote themselves. This is something that Clarins did well, they had makeovers, back massages, neck massages and hand massages going on. Plus there should be a lot of variety of brands, I saw too many Pinterest inspired greetings cards, old news.

This is a really fun day out or something to do post work, it doesn’t last the whole day, only about 3 hours I’d say? So if you travel from outside London it’s nice to go and get food and cocktails afterwards and really make a day of it I’d day.

So my overall opinion is, great girly day and something different to do. It needs to be less money making orientated and more hands on and part of an experience. Plus add some body shapes to that catwalk! Look at what the Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry and Topshop Unique are doing and have the catwalk edit ready to shop afterwards.

#FULLYRATE – HAIR REHAB LONDON

#BeckyWithTheGoodHair

So when I died my hair from blonde to brown, I thought that I’d get some hair extensions because before I started dying my hair it used to be really long and brown, and I miss it. Lesson being, don’t buy box dyes when you’re 15. I’d used clip in extensions before and thought I’d up my game and get some bonds or something but being realistic, in London can afford that? Absolutely not. Clip ins it was. But to be fair, I thought may aswell start with clip ins and take it from there.

CHOOSING THE BRAND

I didn’t want clip in extensions that would look like rats tails after a month so I researched into many different brands. I chose Hair Rehab London because I was stalking Lauren Pope’s (the founder of the brand and TOWIE star) Instagram and I didn’t even realise that her hair was all extensions and sometimes clip ins, they look INCRED. So I looked on the Hair Rehab website and made sure they were real hair and how good the quality was etc. They have a really strong FAQ section which lit answered my questions which is so good if you’re a first time buyer (I’m making this sound like you’re buying a house). They’ve also got a mix of synthetic and real hair, for mine I wanted real.

CHOOSING THE COLOUR

Buying extensions online was tricky because I wanted the get the right colour match, but Hair Rehab had an amazing colour match tool where you simply just upload a photo of your hair and you guide the colour swatches next to it to find your shade. If you get stuck on that, you can email them a few selfies of your hair and they can match you up for you.

So I went for 16″ extensions, but they were out of stock so the customer service team emailed me straight away the next morning asking if I wanted to wait until they were back in stock or if I wanted 20″ at no extra cost. If you’ve read my last post then you’ll know how analytical I am about customer service. I decided to go for the 20″ because I was going to get them cut anyway.

(My hair before my extensions)

WHEN THEY ARRIVED

When they arrived the colour was absolutely spot on, I received 4x one clip strips, 1x 2 clip strips and 2x 3 clip strips. This is the perfect amount of not more for my hair. If you have really really thick hair then you may want to order 2 packs. However they were waaaaayyy too long. 20″ is longer than I thought. Luckily my BFF is a hairdresser so I took them to her and she cut them into my hair for me and shaped them etc. I fully recommend that you do this with extensions as it makes them look way more natural. I got quite a lot cut off them, we just did it inch by inch until we found the perfect length.

STYLING

When they were cut into my hair they were obviously straight, and they looked so realistic it was CRAY. They added nice healthy thickness and length which was just what I wanted. When wearing them straight, I usually straighten my hair and extensions separately and then place the extensions in my hair and briefly run through them with straightners to smooth out the ends.

They look so good when curled. I place them into my hair first and curl my hair and extensions together. I just feel like they look more natural this way because the curls form together more. Although it’s completely up to you and you can curl your hair separately and then place the pieces in. I just use my curling wand to curl them. Sometimes if I’ve just washed my hair and it’s that annoying smooth texture where it lit won’t do anything, I just spray my roots with dry shampoo to add texture giving the clips something to grip on to.

I don’t wear my extensions everyday, only about 2-3 times a week. Therefore I wash them about every 2 weeks or whenever I feel like they need washing. I use my usual shampoo and I only condition the ends, however I do use a conditioning treatment on the ends which I just leave in. Never blow dry them! Leave them to dry au naturale. If anyone’s got any tips on maintaining  and treating extensions, let me know!
