#FASHUN – CRUSHIN’ ON CORD

69A06651-399F-4C29-8ADF-B2EBA2248596.JPG

Cord either throws me back to the early 2000’s where I’d be strutting into my school non uniform day in my finest cord trousers or reminds of my dads cord bootcuts. There’s no in-between. But Cord has made a cheeky reappearance this AW and I have to say… I’m here for it! Here’s my current staple Cord pieces in my wardrobe!

THE H&M CO-ORD

I LOVE a co-ord more than anything, and this H&M duo was my payday treat to myself. Well, H&M accidentally priced the skirt to £12 online one day so I managed to snatch that at a reduced price but the jacket I had to treat myself to. You can’t have one without the other right? The material is such a nice quality it’s a really well made piece, AND it’s actually really warm! Making it the perfect trans-seasonal outfit.

THE CORD PUFFER

Behave, I know I really need to clean my mirror but this is the only photo I have in this jacket! I took it home up north with me because it’s SO warm, it literally feels like I’m wearing a duvet. If we want to get all practical n that, the elasticated waist is super helpful cause it stops the wind getting in and making you cold… exciting stuff.

THE WIDE LEG TROUSER

These are the steal of the season… £12 in H&M Sale!! They fit like an absolute dream too, perfectly high waisted and the perfect length. Well, when I say they fit like a dream, get a size up one or two dress sizes. We all know that H&M is the only place you can be a size 6 to 16 in one day, I had to get these in size 12. They’re the same lovely material as the blue cord co-ord so I’m chuffed I got these for £12, always check out different H&M sale areas as I find they have different stock in Sale and sometimes different prices!

#FASHUN – THE DENIM EDIT

I’ve always been a Jeans ‘n’ Tee kinda gal but denim really is such a staple to have in your wardrobe, and I feel as strongly about this as much as Sarah Harris feels about her jeans. For a while people saw denim as just a pair of skinny jeans, but recently we’ve got hella more styles and colours to choose from. I religiously wore Topshop Jamie Jeans because the skinny was my staple, but now I’m obsessed with the straight fit… so much so I’ve got 5 pairs of Topshop Straight Jeans. In this post I round up 3 denim looks to take you slightly outside of your comfort zone…

COLOUR

Suns out, colours out! Never be afraid of colour. Denim is a great place to start even if it’s a jacket or skirt. Make it the staple of your outfit by working whites & blacks around it. This way you won’t look like Joseph & His Technicolour Dream Coat.

DOUBLE DENIM

Despite the fact I look severely pissed off about something, I do love Double Denim. My lil tip is to wear 2 pieces of the exact shade or two which are obviously different. No in-between.

WIDE LEG

*Inserts the Roll Safe Bootcuts meme* This is a great updated ‘Jeans n Tee’ look and different to anything I’ve worn so far so had a yolo moment and loved it. I’ve got quite long legs, I’m about 5 ft 8, so it’s a rare occasion whenever I find trousers that touch the floor let alone jeans! These are going to be super cute with a bandeau top in the summer.

#FASHUN – HOW TO USE LIKETOKNOW.IT

I used to ALWAYS think ‘what on earth is this Like To Know.It and why is every blogger using it???” Until I actually downloaded the app and realised how useful it was. I still feel like not a lot of people understand how to actually use it though, so here’s a run down…

First of all you need to install the app on your phone… duh….

So all I need to do is enable my photo with LikeToKnow. It, you’ll usually know if it’s enabled because I’ll put a link in my caption and it may have a symbol in the bottom right corner. Once you’ve liked or even screen-shotted my image that triggers my image to be sent to your email/homepage on LTK with a full run down of the products featured in my image!

All the images you’ve liked hit down onto your main feed, just click on an image to be able to shop!

You can also follow other influencers and bloggers…

You can search for inspo and shop anything featured…

It’s so easy! There’s nothing more annoying than loving someones outfit on Instagram and not knowing where its from. Problem solved!

*I receive a tiny amount of commission from any sales made through my LikeToKnow. It #SuportYourGal

#GETTHELOOK – HOW I EDIT MY INSTAGRAM PHOTOS

I always get asked what filters I use for my Insta photos, I honestly have quite a long process as I edit everything on separate apps, I never use actual Instagram filters. I thought I’d share my editing process, this may produce a few eye rolls but I like my profile to have a bit of an aesthetic to it and I need something to do on the tube to and from work!

LIGHTING

Usually I literally take about 80 photos before I’ve settled on one I like, I am such a perfectionist. Honestly, it’s all down to lighting. You can not take a good photo in bad lighting. The worst type of lighting is light that comes from above, this is why we all look horrendous in Topshop changing rooms. Light that comes above creates shadows on your face, not cute for those eye bags! The best lighting is light that comes directly at you, which is why the new H&M changing rooms are the best for selfies. Personally, the best lighting is natural lighting which is why I usually take all of my selfies in front of a window.

FLAT LAYS

Flat lays are the trickiest photos to take, I think you’ve got to have a really good eye for composition and angles. They’re always best taken from birds eye view but getting that spot on is quite hard. All my flat lays are taken in square mode, it helps with the composition. If you add a grid onto your camera/cropping mode where the 4 lines cross each other, they should sit on key areas of your photo. The human eye is naturally drawn to those 4 areas so this will create focal points for your photo. You can also use those lines a guide to lay out your props.

HOW I EDIT

I use 2 apps to edit my photos, FaceTune and VSCO Cam. FaceTune you usually have to pay for but I’ve got a free version from the app store, VSCO is also free but you can buy extra filters. They do offers all the time so you can build up a collection easily, the only filter I use is HB1 from the HYPEBEAST pack.

IMG_0195

Firstly, I go into FaceTune and whiten the whole background on my image, this just makes it look better with the filter. Then I use the Glow feature to go over my outfit/key parts of the image, it just enhances the colours in the image and makes it look a bit more high res.

Then I load the photo into VSCO and add my filter, I never have the full filter on the image, usually on a 6 or a 9. Then I sharpen the image to a 3. If needed, i’ll adjust the exposure but only to a 1.

Then FINALLY it’s ready for the gram! Yep, it’s a longer process than most people but it literally takes me 2 minutes to do I’ve done it so many times. Other good apps to edit photos on are Afterlight, Square Ready and Snapseed.

#LIFE – I’M NOW ON YOUTUBE/BERLIN TRIP

SO I finally attempted to start up my YouTube channel, with a vlog from Berlin! The Paris one WILL be on its way soon I just can’t seem to get my head around editing just yet. I’m so nervous for it to go up, its far from perfect and very obviously a first attempt. I don’t understand how I’ve managed to set up my own site and learnt to HTML my way through it but I just can’t get my head around YouTube… its so much harder than I thought!

My camera actually died so this doesn’t show everything from my trip, but you get the jist of it all. I also don’t think my camera is very good with film, I have a Fuji X100 or something which is amazing for photos but for film I think I need something Sony or Canon based, suggestions below please!

So alongside the vlog I thought I’d share some photos from my trip, I thought I took so many more but I evidently didn’t.

#SKINCARE101 – CHARLOTTE TILBURY MAGIC SHEET MASK

….That is such a long title

SO I am obsessed with sheet face masks at the moment and nearly had a heart attack when I saw that Charlotte Tilbury was releasing one this year, because like everything she does, it’s going to be amazing. I was presuming an ordinary wet sheet mask, but no, she went hella extra and decided to create a whole new concept… a DRY sheet mask!

Priced at £18 for one, it is pricy. But then it’s also reusable?! As the mask is totally dry, it doesn’t hold any bacteria. Charlotte claims you can use it up to 3 times so really its £6 per mask if you break it down.

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

What I really loved about this mask was the way the mask fits, it loops over your ears so it actually fits and stays on your face. To use, you just gently massage the mask into your skin to activate the product, then sit back for 15 minutes! I didn’t take any photos of myself in the mask because it looks terrifying, it reminds me of something in Doctor Who.

So the mask claims to hydrate, lift, reduce wrinkles, smooth & brighten. Afterwards my face definitely felt hydrated and had a gorgeous glow to it. I wouldn’t say that it lifted or reduced any wrinkles (not that I have many, yet!) but I’m presuming thats something that would come with continued use. However the next morning (I used it before bed) my skin didn’t look any different, if anything it was worse! My skin had a weird texture to it and my makeup just wouldn’t apply nicely on my skin.

Overall, I think as this is a dry mask its fascinating how it works and it’s a great piece of cosmetic science. But, because it’s dry I think I was amazed that it actually worked whereas realistically it has the same outcome as any other wet sheet mask. What its perfect for is when your skin is looking dull and needs a quick pick me up before you apply makeup, e.g. every Monday morning!

I’ve added in 2 YouTuber reviews on the sheet mask as these guys had a whole PR pack on the mask so can go into all the little bits of detail x

#FASHUN – MY SALE PURCHASES

The Boxing Day sales felt like they were SO long ago! I never shop on actual Boxing Day and I don’t agree with it either (most likely because I’m knee deep at work picking shit up off the floor wishing I was at home actually enjoying Christmas #RetailProbs). I wait 2/4 weeks after the launch day as this is when further reductions happen and more lines go into sale and you get the good shit. I managed to get my hands on some really good bits this year from Topshop so thought I’d share.

My number 1 purchase may have to be my navy feather jacket. I lusted over this when I first saw it but out of stock it went. I found a lost one in the sale with a £50 price reduction and just HAD to purchase. I got a size 10 (I usually wear an 8 in jackets) as I wanted it slightly oversized and able to fit a hoodie underneath.

In terms of price reduction, the embroidered tote bag HAS to be number 1. I always wanted this but originally priced at £65 it was a no from me hun. I managed to pick it up for £15! Yes, it is the same style as my chain cross body, but this one I can use for my shopping and uni books… like if I was to use uni books that is.

Another bag purchase, I love the Gucci inspired embroidery on this little cross body. It’s just the perfect size for little everyday trips. For £10 I really couldn’t go wrong with this purchase.
Finally, the shoes! Yet again I wanted these so bad when I first saw them but of course, out of stock they went so I bought the grey suede version instead. I do love a print on a shoe as it adds so much more vibrancy to and outfit and brings it all together.
