#TRIED’N’TESTED – STYLIST LIVE

Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetAs I’m a member of the Stylist Beauty Council I very kindly got 2 tickets to Stylist Live! This was my second year going as I also went last year.

So the concept of the day is that you book yourself onto 1 workshop, 1 talk and 1 catwalk show. By the time I got round to doing this the workshops I wanted were fully booked so I just decided to do a talk and the catwalk show. As I went the year before I had a rough idea about what the catwalk would be like. I booked myself onto a trend forecasting talk as my current unit at uni is based on forecasting. One of the guest speakers was from WGSN (major global forecasting site) which was really interesting. I learnt a lot from the talk but some of it was what I learn at uni, plus the audience could do a Q&A at the end which I enjoyed as it broadened the topic.

The catwalk is built up of 5 trends for A/W all of which are high street looks you can buy now. In my personal opinion, it’s just naff. I’d much rather a edit which you can actually shop at the event built up of some personal shoppers and stylists to help you find the look which is best for you. However the main thing which I disliked about the catwalk show, was that in the trend talk the fashion editor talked about tailoring everything for the Stylist reader. Now, this should of been filtered onto the catwalk show. The Stylist reader isn’t all a size 6 tall skinny early 20’s female. It would be much more exciting if we had a range of body sizes up on the catwalk to reflect the range of readers. You can say the same for all fashion shows I know, but Stylist is that magazine you get for free on the tube to read in on your commute and really reaches out to the reader.

In between all of this, the business design centre is built up of pop up stalls. Clarins and Urban Decay having the biggest floor space. I wanted to see more exclusive discounts. Liz Earle only had 10% off which was a bit disappointing, you can get better on Feel Unique! It needs to be a lot more hands on, a lot of the brands are small businesses trying to sell product to you which kinda got annoying. I want to be able to learn about these new brands and get an experience. For example, Urban Decay was just like going into Debenhams… where as at an event like this they should be doing master classes, prize giveaways, discounts etc. Like really open up to the customer and promote themselves. This is something that Clarins did well, they had makeovers, back massages, neck massages and hand massages going on. Plus there should be a lot of variety of brands, I saw too many Pinterest inspired greetings cards, old news.

This is a really fun day out or something to do post work, it doesn’t last the whole day, only about 3 hours I’d say? So if you travel from outside London it’s nice to go and get food and cocktails afterwards and really make a day of it I’d day.

So my overall opinion is, great girly day and something different to do. It needs to be less money making orientated and more hands on and part of an experience. Plus add some body shapes to that catwalk! Look at what the Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry and Topshop Unique are doing and have the catwalk edit ready to shop afterwards.

#LIFE – CUTTING OUT DAIRY

To try and help my acne, I decided to cut dairy out of my diet. Some say it works and some say it doesn’t *thinking emoji* so here’s what I found…

When I was younger, as in like baby times, I had excema and my mum stopped feeding me cows milk and gave me goats milk instead, and that got rid of the excema and it never came back. I only get excema when I’m really stressed and it flares up on my neck and eyes (ouch), but the only way I can get rid of this is antibiotics and creams from the doctors.

I was scared to have soya milk incase I didn’t like it so I started by getting a soya latte from Starbucks instead of a normal latte containing cows milk, then I realised that I actually much prefer soya in my coffee! Such a good way to lead yourself into it. If you don’t like it, try getting a syrup like vanilla added in. I would definitely cut down slowly instead of just suddenly cutting dairy out as your body will struggle to adjust.

So, I only really had milk in my cereal and in my tea, and omg I love tea (northern AF). Soya doesn’t really taste great in tea but in Earl Grey tea it’s really nice! But it’s easier to just have green tea instead. I have Clipper tea as the tea bags aren’t bleached so it’s healthier for you, plus there’s so many flavours and varietys. For breakfast I switched to soya yogurt, granola and chia seeds, some days I’ll add some fruit in their depending on how hungry I am. Tesco do really nice own brand soya yogurt and the Alpro vanilla one is also a shout.

The results…

So you’re not going to see magic results over night so be patient but I deffo noticed changes within a few days. My stomach was way less bloated, I didn’t even realise that it was bloated beforehand! Within a week to 10 days my skin was a lot less irritated and blotchy. I still get spots, but a lot lot less than what I did before hand. I would 100% say that cutting out dairy helped my skin and my acne.

If you’re going to go ahead and cut out dairy, remember that it’s an extremely long term commitment. You can’t do it for 2 weeks and then pick it up again. And remember, that the next time you do eat dairy or lactose, your body will have trouble digesting it! The stomach pains aren’t worth it for a few scoops of Ben & Jerrys, have sorbet instead.

#LIFE – BISH TURNED 20

Not gonna lie, 20 isn’t even old but I was dreading my birthday. I just wanted to stay in my teens forever! You can just get away with more stuff, and like 20 sounds really close to 30.

I love birthdays and I’ve always been one to long mine out for as long as I can. But this year I just wanted to spend time with my friends and family, those closest to me. Since I moved to uni everyone said that your uni friends are you friends for like. Now as much as I don’t even like labelling them as ‘uni friends’ cause really they’re all my bloody friends all the end of the day, I realised that there really is nothing better than home friends! I think because we’re all doing our own thing it’s so nice to come together and catch up on each others lives and see how well we’re all doing. #Slay.

I traveled back to Newcastle with my bestie Yasmin, we stank of fake tan in prep for Saturday night. We sipped on processco and nibbled on some strawberrys. The journey from London to Newcastle is a good 3 hours so traveling with someone really made a difference!

I wore a Missguided playsuit from their Peace & Love collection. I had a 35% off code from them so got this playsuit for £30 instead of £45. I’m always hesitant to order from Missguided as the quality is very questionable. I thought the Peace & Love collection was more premium, but deffo not. The playsuit was like a thin satin material and wasn’t even lined! Id much rather pay a bit extra and have something nicer from Topshop.

We went out in Newcastle to our faaaveeeee club, Tup Tup Palace. So much Beyonce is was banging.

NOW FOR THE BEST PART

I went to see Beyonce!!

I had such a good time, I’d never seen Beyonce before. I didn’t get there at a crazy time or anything. In fact I got there at 8pm when she was supposed to be coming on stage. I thought I’d be right at the back but I somehow ended up just to the side of the golden circle. Winning.

When I was there I had the time of me life and took so many drunk snapchats, even if it was raining.

Since seeing other UK shows I noticed that she did more songs at other venues compared to Sunderland. Partition had a whole dance routine and set to it and she didn’t perform it, I was devvo’d because that’s one of my favourite songs. Same for the 50 shades of grey version of crazy in love. Just seems a bit unfair when we’ve paid hella money to see her ! End of the day I still had a banging birthday. #BibisBirthdayBender

#FAVES – APRIL

This post is waaaaay over due cause I’ve been so busy with uni. But here it is, my April favourites!

LUMEE SELFIE LIGHT PHONE CASE

I’ve wanted one of these for so long but just never got round to purchasing as you have to order them from America and the shipping is weeelllll expensive. You can get snide ones on eBay and stuff but I wanted the real deal, so I could get my selfie game as strong as Kim Kardashians. If you didn’t know, she has one of these. I ordered from the Lumee website and including shipping and everything it cost me £50, which yeah is ridic for a phone case. BUT ITS SO GOOD. Okay yeah it does make your phone look like an absolute brick, but the selfies are banging. It’s so good for drunk snapchats on a night out too. You can alter the strength of the light to suit you. It’s so perf. I fully recommend that everyone has one of these in their lives.

NYX SETTING SPRAY

I usually use Urban Decay setting spray but I felt like it wasn’t doing much on my face for everyday use, but for nights out its somehow amazing. I use setting sprays everyday so I don’t have to touch up on my make up throughout the day. I saw this and it’s so cheap I thought I may aswell give it a go. ITS SO GOOD. If not better than the Urban Decay one, serious. If you have oily skin then avoid this and opt for the Matte finish version instead.

TOPSHOP BRONZER IN MOHAWKE

I love the feeling of going back to a product and it being amazing and you just forgot about how amazing it was. Cause that’s what happened with this. It’s matte so there’s no shimmer in this, so if you prefer shimmery bronzers then this ain’t the one for you. Since I’ve been loving highlight recently, this works perfectly as its matte so I don’t end up with a completely shimmery face. I use it on my cheekbones to help blend my contour and on the temples of my forehead. It really gives me a glow so my face matches with my orange fake tanned body.

TOPSHOP BROW GEL

For real this stuff is so good. As you may know, I’ve used Maybelline Brow Drama for years now, but this has officially taken its place. I bought it in the darker shade but it’s actually really really dark so I have to apply it lightly so I don’t end up looking like Mr Bean. At first I was a bit worried about the brush size as its so small, but it’s perfect because it gets every detail so you can really accurately shape your brows. If you’re someone who has to fill in their brows (with pencil or gel) then use this over the top to hold the hairs in place.

GARNIER MICELLAR WATER WITH OIL

I love love love the normal (the one in the pink bottle) Garnier Micellar water, when I saw this in Boots I was like ooooh I need to try this. Must admit if you have oily skin then just skip this, this is your worst nightmare. This is 100% for dry skin. It doesn’t leave your skin greasy at all, it really does hydrate your face and give it a bit of a glow. Make sure you shake the bottle well before use though!

#LIFE – BISHES GOT A YACHT

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably would of noticed I’ve been a bit of a jet setter recently….  #notsoz. When I finish my third term of uni in June, I will then go straight into a work placement for a year so the Easter holidays were my chance to have a summer holiday. Perfectly valid excuse if you ask me.

My friends and I decided that we would go to the Canary Islands as they’re the closest to the equator and have a spring like climate all year round. The hotels were pretty average so we had a look on Air BnB and found this AMAZING yacht in Gran Canaria. All the reviews seemed pretty legit so we decided to go ahead and book. Best decision ever.

I’m not sure if I’d go back to Gran Canaria as I feel like I’ve seen what I needed to see. If the yacht was located in the South of France then I’d be in my element. Also, never ever fly with Ryan Air, legit worst experience of my life. Just pay extra and go Easy Jet. Trust.

#LIFE – BLONDE TO BRUNETTE

My hair colour is naturally brown, but 3 years ago I decided I wanted to go blonde. I did this the long and expensive way of getting highlights. I’d recommend for anyone wanting to go blonde to do it this way! It’s less harsh on your hair and you build up different tones making it look more natural compared to a block colour. I realised that my hair looked better with a darker root so I let the blonde grow out for a bit before blending it into an ombre.

If you live in London, you’ll know that the water RUINS your hair. I’d tried various shampoos from Wella to Kerastase and none were doing the job. You have to constantly maintain blonde and I just couldn’t keep up with the London prices… if you know you know!

After months of debating with myself, I took the plunge and decided to dye my hair back brown! Im SO glad I did. With brunettes you get such a nice shine which you can’t get with blondes, it instantly looked so much more healthier! I’m sure in a month or too I’ll be debating whether to go back blonde…

#LIFE – BISHES IN PARIS

As part of my degree we were lucky enough to go on a trip to Paris for a few days, here’s a few of my favourite images from the trip. Click on the images for the story behind the photo!
